A Parisian Inspired Polka Dots Dress

In this post, I blog about new design, the delicate silk chiffon Dolce and Gabbana fabric, and the picturesque cherry blossom field where I took the photos. Inspired by the effortless elegance of Parisians and the puffy sleeves trend, I designed and made this dress. It’s perfect for Spring.

I’m so excited that Spring is here. The weather is getting warmer, daylight is longer, and Christmas is approaching. What a perfect way to welcome Spring in style with flowy dresses. I found this gorgeous 100% silk chiffon polka dots fabric at Tessuti Fabric in Melbourne. It was Dolce and Gabbana fabric offcuts. I was attracted to its sheerness and the classic polka dots prints. It was a bit pricey $84/metre but it was totally worth the investment. The fabric is so smooth, soft and breathable, soothing my skin. The polka dots print is classic.

For the design, it is midi length dress, to keep it feminine. To create the effortless look, it is semi loosely fitted at the top, I added flounces along the neckline. The long puffy sleeves, keeping up with the current big puffy sleeves trend, were perfect for breezy Spring weather. I lined the dress with white crepe chiffon, I purchased at Franke Stuart for $15/meter. Construction wise, since the fabric is so delicate, all the raw edges were enclosed in french seams. What a tedious process, but it was well worth it.

Location

The photos were taken at the fun and beautiful at CherryHill Cherry Blossoms Festival, located in the picturesque Mount Dandenong. The cherry blossoms were stunning. The entry ticket was only $10 per person. The ticket came with a free delicious bottle of non alcoholic cheery spritzer. It’s a perfect location not just for photos this Spring, but also for a picnic. The live music created friendly atmosphere. For those who are not organised to bring some picnic food, a cafe and some food trucks were at the premise. Tip: Book your ticket online as tickets are sold out quickly! Also try out the cherry ice cream!
