Dance & Couture

Delicate, romantic and effortless.

I’m sharing a pink sand midi dress I created, inspired by dance and Dior. Would you wear it?

On this blog post, I’m sharing the inspiration behind the special occasion dress I created to attend a friend’s wedding, and some details of the design. If you love feminine and effortless style, I promise this post is worth the read.

Inspiration

I draw inspiration from many different sources, my background in dance and my current favourite fashion brand Dior are certainly big influence in my designs. I would describe the combination of these two sources of inspiration as delicate, romantic and effortless.

Design

Underneath the sheer deep V-neck top is a straight neckline corset. I drew this design inspiration from Dior. The corset adds structure and reshapes the waist so it becomes slightly smaller. For a semi formal occasion, I like a midi-length dress. With the midi skirt, I wanted to add a bit more volume, but also keep it light and flowy, so to create this effect, the skirt part was constructed with an organza layer and multiple layers of tulle, underneath an outer chiffon layer.

I tended to overthink my design or wondered if I truly liked my design choice. However, when I found this silk chiffon fabric at SilkWorld, my doubts immediately disappeared. The delicate semi-translucent fabric perfectly brought my design to life, creating the flowy and effortless effect I was after. Lately for colour, I’m drawn towards skin-tone pink sand colour palette, it’s subtle and feminine, but not overly girly. Below is the dress I constructed and wore to a friend’s wedding.
