Mixing Prints This Spring
Spring has arrived, the warmer days are coming. It’s a good excuse to reinvent our wardrobe and shake-up our outfits. Mixing and matchings prints are a fun way to create ‘new’ looks from your existing wardrobe.
How crazy that it’s Spring already! With the warmer weather around the corner, now is a great time to create new looks by mixing and matching prints. Here are my three easy tips on how to mix prints like a pro.
Mix prints of different scales
Knowing the prints’ scale is key to avoid your outfit looking ‘too busy’. For example, I matched my skirt which has large squares with a top which has tiny flowers sporadically spread across.
Opt for classic prints
Some prints such as polka-dots and stripes are timeless. I’d say you can mix them without looking like a clown. For example, mixing striped top with another striped bottom in a different scale, or mixing tiny polka dots and big stripes.
If in doubt, layer in solids
The safest option of course is to mix prints with solid colours, or even safer with neutral solid colours. I gravitate towards white this season. It gives a clean and bright look, perfect for Spring. Keep scrolling to see how Jo, my editor, looking chic in floral prints top and white skirt.
If you are not into mixing patterns yet, and still looking for prints that suit you, I’d suggest trying out prints on neutral safe base colours, such as a black top or skirt with floral prints. Keep scrolling to see how I styled mixed prints, and where we got the items from.
