Finding the 'Right' Fur Coat and Styling It
Winter is in full swing here in Melbourne. It's the perfect time to rock an obsessive amount of fur without looking silly, and fur coats are back on trend this season! Oddly finding one that fits perfectly can be difficult.
I had been searching for the ‘right’ fur coat since I saw them flooding the streets of Paris last year. The one that gives a feminine edgy touch without looking bulky like a bear or pretentious, one that I could wear casually to brunch during the day and semi formal dinner at night.
Here are my 3 of my shopping tips to find the 'right' fur coat. I bought my faux fur coat from Storets and Eugenia Kim faux fur hat from Shopbob. Keep scrolling to see how I style it too.
Colour
Fall and Winter are all about bold dark colours. Black fur is simply the easiest to pull off anything worn along the coat. Darker fur adds more drama and edgy look to the personality.
Natural and lighter fur creates a more classic look. It is a great option for winter wedding coat, and for creating street style by pairing it with sneakers and denim. I personally love ivory and grey fur coats.
Pairing a bright and multi-coloured fur with skinny jeans and simple top, is a fun way to obtain an absolute chic, a touch of 'indie' look and make a statement.
Texture
Finer, softer and ‘shorter’ fur generally looks more feminine, while rough heavy furred coat gives a more edgy and ‘rough and tough’ look. If you are petite like us, the heavy furred coats tend to make me look bulky and a tad shorter.
Artificial vs the Real Deal
Most faux fur are made from acrylic which is much more affordable than the real deal, but arguably does not keep you as warm. I think it is warm enough for Melbourne’s winter though. Also, faux fur does not attract moths, which makes it easier to keep. These days the look and feel of faux fur is right up there with the real deal.
